US airstrike hits central Kabul

WASHINGTON DC (Age-ncies): The US military confirmed that it launched an airstrike near the airport in the Afghan capital.

“The US armed forces, as part of self-defense, launched an over-the-horizon unmanned airstrike on a car in Kabul on Sunday, removing an immediate threat from IS-Vilayat Khorasan to Hamid Karzai International Airport,” US Central Command said.

The Pentagon stressed that “significant secondary explosions in the car indicate the presence of a significant amount of explosives.”

“We are confident we successfully hit the target. Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material,” according to Urban. “We are assessing the possibilities of civilian casualties, though we have no indications at this time. We remain vigilant for potential future threats.”

At the same time, as reported by the Ariana News TV channel, the airstrike killed six people, including four children. Eyewitnesses of the incident claim that the rockets destroyed two cars and part of a residential building.

Eyewitnesses added that three families live in the house.

On Sunday morning, the US Embassy in Afghani-stan announced that there was a “concrete and credible” terrorist attack threat in Kabul.

The diplomatic mission called on “all US citizens in the vicinity of the Kabul airport, including the south gate, the new interior ministry and the gate near the Panjer gas station on the northwest side of the airport” to leave the area immediately.

Now the airport is controlled by American troops, thousands of citizens of the US, third countries, as well as Afghans from risk groups are being evacuated.
