FM: Pakistan is a facilitator, not a guarantor of Afghan Peace talks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is a facilitator and Not a Guarantor of Afghan peace process, Pakistan has been playing this role of a facilitator and will be doing this only for the better future of the People of Afghanistan. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi shared these thoughts during a news conference in Islamabad on Monday.

Qureshi was of the view that despite of harsh and unwarranted remarks by a faction of the Afghan government Pakistan decided to exercise restraint from reciprocating similar reply besides having full baggage of it. Pakistan perceives that such behavior would not benefit the Afghan Peace Process and fulfil the desires and objectives of the spoilers.

According to Qureshi, the situation in Afghanistan is revolving and the level of violence is increasing every single day. He noted that Pakistan would continue to play a supportive role in Afghan peace dialogue, however if Afghan Peace Process succeed it would be the credit of Afghan leadership and unfortunately if this Peace Process fails it would be the failure of Afghan Leadership not anyone else.

Qureshi categorically informed the world that Pakistan cannot be blamed for the failures of other. Qureshi hinted that some sections are trying made Pakistan a scapegoat for their failures due to their vested interests.

While briefing the media regarding recent emergency briefing of UNSC on Afghanistan, Qureshi said that being next door neighbor and most affected country from Afghan dispute after Afghanistan, Pakistan is happy on the briefing on Afghan issue, however despite of Pakistan’s formal request to attend the meeting the biased role of Indian representative and Presi-dent of UNSC Ambassador TS Turimurti was very condemned able. He said that the Afghanistan permanent Representative at UNO Ambassador Ghulam M Isaczai leveled baseless accusations against Pakistan during the meeting of UNSC to malign Pakistan. He observed that it was a failed attempt to mislead the international community and UNSC forum through false accusation and baseless propaganda.

Qureshi said that as the US troops are near to complete their draw down therefore Pakistan is deeply concerned of the situation in Afghanistan. Qureshi called on the Afghan leadership to work together for resolution of Afghan issue through peace full means.

He said Pakistan has no favorites in Afghanistan, unfortunately Pakistan is being made scapegoat for other failures.
