WASHINGTON DC (TA-SS): US President Biden during the virtual meeting of the participants of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) noted the need to ensure freedom in the region and stressed the importance of investing in global health.
This is stated in the statement released on Friday by the press service of the White House. Biden said that the US intends to continue to actively participate in the affairs of the region.
“The President stressed the importance of multilateral cooperation and reaffirmed his commitment [to ensure] a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” the statement said.
The head of the White House recalled the promise to allocate about 500 million doses of coronavirus vaccines to more than a hundred countries.
“The President has made it clear that the US provides vaccines free of charge, does not sell them, and emphasized the absence [of the desire to put forward] any political and economic conditions for the provision of drugs, – the text says. – <…> Biden also discussed the importance of investment to strengthen global health security and readiness to confront a new pandemic.”
