MOSCOW (Agencies): Former presidential candidate in Belarus, oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya will begin a working visit to the US on July 18, her press service said on Friday.
“Svetlana Tikhanovski will start a working visit to the United States on July 18 she will visit Washington, New York and California, where she plans to hold a summit meeting with politicians, experts and, of course, the Diaspora..”, – stated in the press-service Telegram- channel politics.
It is emphasized that “the purpose of the trip is to find ways to resolve the crisis in Belarus and help Belarusians.”
“The program of the visit is still at the stage of elaboration, the team of Tikhanovskaya will inform about specific meetings as soon as it becomes possible,” the message adds.
Strikes and protest actions engulfed Belarus on August 9, 2020, immediately after the presidential elections, which were won by the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashe-nko – according to the CEC, he gained 80.1% of the vote. His rival, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, according to official data, took second place with 10.1%. Its headquarters did not recognize these figures, considering that the opposition candidate gained significantly more than 50%. With the beginning of winter, opposition rallies in Belarus died down.
