Russia warns US

MOSCOW (Agencies): The movement of US troops from Afghanistan to neighboring countries is unacceptable for Russia , Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with Internati-onal Affairs magazine.

“We told the Americans about this directly and frankly,” he said.

According to the diplomat, if Washington acted in this way, it would “change a lot” in Russian-American relations.

“We warn them against such steps,” Ryabkov said, adding that Moscow is discussing this issue with its Central Asian allies and with other states in the region.

In addition, Russia has established channels of dialogue on this topic with the United States, Ryabkov said.

“Our special envoys for Afghanistan are in very close contact and interaction, just as the leaders periodically discuss this topic, I mean the foreign minister and the secretary of state,” the deputy minister concluded.

In 2020, the United States and the Taliban * signed the first peace agreement in 18 years of war, under which the US military must leave Afghanistan.

The White House promises to complete the withdrawal by 9/11.

At the same time, tensions are growing in Afghanistan: the Taliban have seized significant territories and launched an offensive on large cities, they are opposed by government forces.
