NEW YORK (RIA Novosti): Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya urged to stand up for the UN Charter against the background of regularly sounding statements by Western states about the need to observe “a world order based on rules.”
His video message was posted on Twitter by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation at the organization on the occasion of the UN Day, which is celebrated on October 24. In the video, the Permanent Representative is holding the UN Charter.
Nebenzya recalled that the founders of the organization laid down the fundamental goals and principles of interstate cooperation in the Charter. “Only by observing them can humanity move towards building a more just, prosperous and secure world, and prevent new global wars,” he said.
“Today, there are more and more attempts to revise the international legal norms laid down in the Charter, to promote a certain world order based on rules. Our common task is to stand up for the UN Charter. We reaffirm our full commitment to the central and coordinating role of the UN in international affairs and declare: our rules are the UN Charter “, – stressed the permanent representative.
UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the Charter of the organization. The UN has officially appeared since the ratification of this fundamental document.
