MINSK (Agencies): The first power unit of the BelNPP was disconnected from the network after the automatic protection of the generator was triggered, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus said .
“In accordance with the standard algorithm, the power of the reactor plant was reduced … The reasons for the shutdown of the electric generator are being established. After their elimination, the power unit will be put into operation,” the ministry’s Telegram channel says .
It is emphasized that the radiation situation at the NPP and in the observation area did not change.
BelNPP is the largest Russian-Belarusian economic project; the general contractor for its construction is Atomstroyexport (part of Rosatom ). The Russian NPP design with VVER-1200 generation 3+ reactors was chosen for the construction of the plant.
In early June, BelNPP received a license to operate the first power unit. On June 10, the Ministry of Energy of Belarus announced that the commission chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Nazarov signed an act of acceptance into operation of the start-up complex.
The second power unit is planned to be launched in 2022; its construction is 85 percent complete. Fresh nuclear fuel has already been supplied for the second power unit; it is planned to load the fuel in autumn, which will be the beginning of the physical start-up. In late 2021 – early 2022 it is planned to be connected to the network, and then it will begin to generate kilowatt-hours.
