Capitol riot panel says it received “thousands” of documents for probe

WASHINGTON (Axios): The House select committee in charge of investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot announced late Thursday that it had received “thousands of pages of documents” in relation to the investigation.

Driving the news: On Aug. 25, the committee sent requests to federal agencies asking them to preserve records and documents that contained information related to the attack. The panel gave the agencies a Sept. 9 deadline to hand over the materials.

  • The panel also reached out to social media outlets and other companies to turn over relevant materials, Reuters reports.

What they’re saying: “These records supplement the material we’ve received from other House Committees related to their earlier probes of Jan. 6,” the panel said.

  • The committee said it’s aware that the National Archives, which handles presidential records, was in the process of reviewing former President Trump’s documents that were part of the request.
  • The panel did not provide any details of what the documents exactly contained.
