Belarusian nuclear power plant passes test

MINSK (RIA Novosti): The first power unit of the Belarusian NPP is again included in the grid after the automatic protection of the generator was disconnected in July, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus said on Monday.

On July 12, the press service of the Ministry of Energy announced that the first power unit of the BelNPP was disconnected from the network by the automatic protection of the generator. The reasons for the shutdown of the electric generator were not named at that time, they were established. After their elimination, the power unit was planned to be put into operation; it was expected that this would happen by mid-August. The station carried out revision and diagnostics of the turbine generator equipment; both Belarusian and Russian specialists were involved in it. In the second half of August, the Ministry of Energy reported that at the first unit of the Belarusian NPP, the need to replace the element of the exciter of the turbine generator was identified, after which the unit could be connected to the network.

“On October 4, at 18.20 (coinciding with Moscow time), the first power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is connected to the network,” the ministry said on its Telegram channel. It is noted that there is an increase in the electrical power of the turbine generator. At present, it is 360 MW. “The power unit was connected to the grid in accordance with the requirements of the technological regulations for safe operation without any comments,” the message says.

“At the second power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, the most important stage of commissioning work -” hot “testing of the reactor plant has been completed. The work was carried out under conditions of loading the reactor with simulators of fuel assemblies,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, about 300 tests of the main and auxiliary equipment and technological systems of the reactor plant, including the reactor itself, steam generators, main circulation pumps, as well as safety, control and protection systems of the reactor, were carried out during the “hot” run-in.

“The tests have confirmed the compliance of the equipment and technological systems with the design characteristics. In accordance with the pre-commissioning program, the next stage will be the revision of the main and auxiliary equipment of the reactor plant,” the statement says.
