US announces new investments to protect journalists around world

NEW YORK (TASS): The US is committed to providing substantial new funding to help protect independent journalists and media outlets around the world. This was announced on Wednes-day by US Secretary of St-ate Anthony Blinken on the eve of the “Summit for D-emocracy”, which will be held on December 9-10.
“During the summit, we will announce significant new investments to support financially challenged ind-ependent media. Our contr-ibution to the recently launched International Fu-nd to Support Public Inter-est Media will be the larg-est of any nation,” Blinken said.
The Washington-initiated “Summit for Demo-cracy” is scheduled for De-cember 9-10. It will be held via videoconference with the participation of heads of state, human rights defenders and businessmen. 110 countries and territories were invited to the event. The list includes Taiwan, but China and Russia are not on this list.
