BEIRUT (RIA Novosti): The United Arab Emirates decided to recall its ambassador to Lebanon for consultations in solidarity with the position of Saudi Arabia, and also announced a ban for its citizens to visit Lebanon, WAM reports, citing a statement from the country’s Foreign Ministry.
On Friday, Saudi Arabia’s state television reported that Riyadh was officially recalling its ambassador to Lebanon for consultations and demanded that the Lebanese ambassador leave the KSA within 48 hours. An Arab diplomatic source told RIA Novosti that Riyadh is considering the possibility of breaking off diplomatic relations with Beirut. Later, the Lebanese TV channel MTV, citing its own source, said that all the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf would follow the example of the KSA. Following Riyadh, Bahrain and Kuwait demanded from the Lebanese ambassador to leave the country within 48 hours.
“The Emirates are announcing the withdrawal of their diplomats from Lebanon in solidarity with Saudi Arabia in light of the unacceptable approach of some officials in Lebanon towards the kingdom. And they decided to ban their citizens from visiting Lebanon,” the agency writes.
