NEW YORK: Today (8 No-vember), there will be a private meeting on Myanmar. The expected briefers are Peter N. Due, the Director of the Asia and Pacific Division of the UN Depart-ments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO), and Dato Erywan bin Pehin Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Special Envoy for Myanmar.
Also on Monday, the Security Council is expected to convene for an open briefing and closed consultations on the situation in Ethiopia, under the agenda item “Peace and Security in Africa”.
Following the meeting on Ethiopia, Council members will discuss “The Sit-uation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question” under “any other business”, at the request of Tunisia. Deputy Special C-oordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Lynn Hastings is expected to brief.
On Tuesday (9 Novem-ber), Mexico will convene a high-level open debate on “Exclusion, inequality and conflicts” under the agenda item “Maintenance of international peace and security”. Mexican President An-drés Manuel López Obra-dor is expected to chair the meeting. Secretary-General António Guterres and a civil society representative will brief. A presidential statement is an anticipated outcome of the meeting.
The annual briefing of UN police commissioners will take place on Wedn-esday (10 November). The expected briefers are Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Police Commi-ssioner Violet Lusala, and UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) Police Commissioner Patricia Boughani.
On Thursday (11 Nov-ember), Council members will hold closed consultations on Yemen. Special E-nvoy for Yemen Hans Gr-undberg and Acting Assist-ant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Ramesh Rajasingham are expected to brief.
Council members are also expected to convene for closed consultations on the Syria chemical weap-ons track on Thursday. High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu is the anticipated briefer.
On Friday (12 Nove-mber), the Security Council is scheduled to vote on three draft resolutions: one renewing the mandate of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), another renewing several elements of the 751 Som-alia sanctions regime, and a third renewing the mandate of the UN Multi-dimensional Integrated Stabilizat-ion Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
Also on Friday, the Council will convene for its biannual briefing, followed by consultations, on the Joint Force of the Group of Five for the Sahel (FC-G5S). Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix is expected to brief. Additional briefers may include a representative of the G5-Sahel and a civil society representative. A representative of the UN Department of Operational Support is expected to brief in consultations.
At the subsidiary body level, there will be a formal meeting of the Military S-taff Committee on Friday (12 November). Also on Fr-iday, there will be a meeting of the Informal Worki-ng Group on Documen-tation and Other Procedural Questions (IWG).
