
DUSHANBE (TASS): Russia begins construction of a modern border outpost in Tajikistan on the border with Afghanistan. This was announced by the Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Igor Lyakin-Frolov, answe-ring a question from a TASS correspondent during a press conference on Monday.
“[Security] issues were considered both in a bilateral and multilateral context, in particular, within the framework of the Colle-ctive Security Treaty Orga-nization, a decision was m-ade to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border <…> Another contribution of Russia is the construction of a border post in the Shamsiddin Shokhin region (in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan on the border with Afghanistan – TASS note), money has been allocated, an agreement has been signed, this project is entering a practical phase, a modern frontier post will be built,” the Russian diplomat said.
He also clarified that within the framework of these decisions, the Russian side carried out several deliveries of weapons for the Armed Forces of Tajikistan.
According to him, “modernization is actively underway in the 201st Russian military base” stationed in Tajikistan, it is equipped with the most modern equipment, a number of exercises, maneuvers are being conducted, about 40 exercises were conducted during the year. He noted the holding of bilateral exercises by the Russian base with Tajik partners and multilateral – within the framework of the CSTO – with the participation of other countries, calling the high level of training. “This issue (security on the Tajik-Afghan border – TASS note) will receive increased attention,” the ambassador summed up.
