Putin will meet XI

MOSCOW (TASS): Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan separate bilateral meetings with other leaders – guests of the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing on February 4. This was reported to TASS by the press secretary of the head of the Russian state Dmitry Peskov, answering the question of whether the Kremlin receives requests from other states about individual conversations of leaders on the sidelines of this ceremony.
“We have repeatedly noted that the organizers of the ceremony are forced to apply a number of strict restrictions for both athletes and guests, including officials,” Peskov recalled. “So, for obvious reasons, no bilateral meetings are planned in the Russian President’s schedule in Beijing,” he added.
Answering a clarifying question about whether the possibility of Putin’s contact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is also expected to attend the opening ceremony of the Games, is being discussed, Peskov replied that “there are currently no plans for such a meeting.” “Although we cannot rule it out completely,” the spokesman added.
“But, I repeat, there are no bilateral meetings other than full-scale talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on President Putin’s schedule,” he stressed.
Putin’s visit to China is scheduled for February 4.
