Josep Borrell to participate in Paris Peace Forum, International Libya Conference

F.P. Report

BRUSSELS: The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, travels today to Paris until Friday.

He will participate in the fourth edition of the Paris Peace Forum(link is external), that will be held during 11-13 November in a hybrid format, together with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and Commissioners Jutta Urpilainen and Věra Jourová. Building on the 2020 edition, this year’s meeting will focus on finding multilateral solutions to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 to ensure an inclusive recovery while addressing gaps in global governance: the action gap, the ambition gap, the North-South solidarity gap and the inclusion gap. This afternoon, High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will take the floor in the virtual panel Age of Unpeace: Preserving international cooperation for a more peaceful future(link is external), in the context of rising tensions in global politics.

Tonight, the High Representative will attend a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.

On Friday, 12 November, High Representative Borrell will participate in the International Conference on Libya, co-chaired by France, Germany and Italy. This conference follows up the Second Berlin Conference organised by Germany in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in September, and will take place at a crucial time for the country and in the run-up to the next elections which will start on 24 December. This will also be an occasion to call for the resolution of the ongoing security challenges, including the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces.

Also on Friday, High Representative Josep Borrell will visit the headquarters of the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EU ISS). The EU ISS has a crucial role as the EU’s Agency responsible for analysing foreign, security and defence policy issues. Through its activities, it assists the High Representative, EU institutions and its Member States in the orientation, planning and implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy, including the Common Security and Defence Policy.
