Hunter Biden found guilty on all counts in gun case

  • A federal jury found Hunter Biden guilty on all three federal felony gun charges he faced, concluding that he violated laws meant to prevent drug addicts from owning firearms.
  • The conviction marks the first time a president’s immediate family member has been found guilty of a crime during their father’s term in office, though his crimes predate Joe Biden’s tenure as president.
  • In a statement, Hunter Biden said he was “disappointed” by the guilty verdict but “grateful” for his family’s love. President Biden expressed support for his son in a statementand said he would “respect the judicial process.”
  • Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000 at sentencing, though he likely will receive far less than the maximum as a first-time offender. The judge said a sentencing is usually set for 120 days following a verdict, which would would put it in mid-October.

A member of the jury that found Hunter Biden guilty told ABC News after the verdict that the trial was a “waste of taxpayers’ dollars.”

“I just think he needs help. He needs rehab,” the juror told ABC News. “In my opinion, this is a waste of taxpayers’ dollars. They should have fined him.”

Asked what she thinks would be a fair sentence, the juror said, “I don’t think that anyone who is a nonviolent drug addict should be in prison. Just fine him. We know he did something wrong. Just fine him. He needs help.”

She said the jurors “worked together really well.”

“Considering who his father is and the political climate in this country, it turned out better than I expected,” she said. “There was no fighting in the jury room.”
