WASHINGTON DC (TA-SS): The US Federal Bur-eau of Investigation (FBI) is concerned that after the withdrawal of the Ameri-cans, Afghanistan may bec-ome a haven for terrorists. Bureau director Christop-her Rey said this on Tue-sday at a hearing in the US House of Representatives.
“It is clear that we are concerned about the future [of Afghanistan] and whether it will be possible to form a haven there [for terrorists],” he said. Ray added that the FBI also does not exclude the possibility of more active activities in Afghanistan by the Islamic State, as well as creating conditions for terrorist attacks from the territory of this countries to other states in the region.
“The threat from Afgha-nistan remains our top priority,” said Christine Abiza-d, director of the National Counter-Terrorism Center at the hearing. According to her, the special services are closely monitoring the situation in this country, including with a view to strengthening the IS and Al-Qaeda groups here.
Also, director of the National Counterterrorism Center Christine Abizad at a hearing in the US House of Representatives said that the radical groups Islamic State and Al-Qaeda, remain the main terrorist threats to the US abroad.
“We believe that IS and al-Qaeda remain the main Sunni terrorist threats to US interests abroad,” she said. In addition, the director continued, organizations affiliated with these groups in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Somalia also began to “threaten the West in a certain way.”
Abizad also noted that Iran and the Hezbollah grouping continue to pose a threat to the interests of the US and the entire West in the Middle East.
