Azerbaijan will deploy special forces in Karabakh

BAKU (TASS): Azerbaijani special forces units will be deployed in the Hadrut region of Karabakh. This was stated on Friday by the President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the opening of a military unit in the region.
According to him, special forces will be deployed there. “The creation of commando brigades is an innovation for us. Not one, not two, but many such brigades are being created in Azerbaijan, which are capable of performing any military task. <…> This will significantly increase the power of our army,” the President said.
According to the press service of the head of state, Aliyev pointed out that “after the war, we did not stop the process of building the army and did not reduce the expenses allocated for it, but on the contrary, increased it.” “New contracts signed after the war are being implemented; on their basis, the most modern weapons and equipment for equipping the Azerbaijani army are being imported,” he said.
The President noted that the purchase of military equipment, an increase in military spending, as well as an increase in the salaries of military personnel indicate that “despite the end of the war, the process of building the army will not be stopped.”
“The experience of the war showed us where we have strengths and where are weaknesses. There were few shortcomings, but they were, so the war became an irreplaceable experience for us,” he added.
Aliyev, who turned 60 today, also visited the city of Shusha in Karabakh, which has been declared the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.
The situation in the conflict zone in Karabakh escalated on September 27 last year.
After a month and a half of fighting, on November 9, the leaders of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in the region.
